Mingei International Museum collects and exhibits historical
and contemporary folk art, craft and design from all cultures of
the world.

San Diego Natural History Museum
The San Diego Natural History Museum celebrates
its
132nd anniversary this year. An active scientific
research institution,
the museum presents relevant,
exciting exhibitions, giant-screen films,
and over
300 programs a year to the public.
The region's oldest and largest visual arts museum
presents
stellar collections of European, American, Asian,
and contemporary art, major traveling exhibitions,
and a year-round schedule of concerts,
performances, films, and lectures.
The San Diego Museum of Man is the city's only museum
devoted
to anthropology. With its Spanish colonial and mission
style architecture,
the landmark building was originally constructed
for the 1915–16
Panama-California Exposition. Today, a key focus
of the
museum is to create and display dynamic and educational
anthropological exhibits about people and places
throughout
the Americas and around the world.
The Timken Museum of Art makes gallery hopping
more fun with the bilingual "Touring the Timken Museum of Art"
children's coloring book
and guidebook. The Putnam Foundation Collection
includes
European old masters, American paintings,
and Russian icons.
San Diego Junior Theatre is the oldest continuously
producing youth theatre in the United States offering six productions
in the Casa del Prado Theatre and seven satellite productions each year.
It offers a full range of theatre arts classes and camps
for children ages 3–18.
The Museum of Photographic Arts houses more than 7,000 works, representing the entire history of photography, its aesthetic movements,
and technological advancements. Illustrating the complex and varied
history of the medium, the museum's collection is particularly
strong in modern and contemporary work, social documentary photography
and photojournalism. The museum
is also home to a state–of–the-art
movie theater.
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center features 100+
hands-on exhibits, the world's first IMAX® Dome Screen
and a 23-passenger motion simulator ride.
San Diego Hall of Champions Sport Museum
The nation's largest multi–sport museum boasts memorabilia
reflecting
San Diego's sporting legacy. Visitors can call play–by–play
for Tony Gwynn and Ted Williams in the state–of–the–art media center,
follow the evolution of the surfboard, or soar with skateboard
legend Tony Hawk.
The internationally acclaimed, Tony Award–winning Old Globe is one
of the most esteemed regional theaters in the country. The Globe boasts three unique venues: the historic Old Globe Theatre, the intimate Cassius Carter Centre Stage, and the outdoor
Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.
The museum showcases the region's unique, colorful history
exhibiting artifacts, costumes, textiles, art, furniture, photographs
and periodic traveling exhibitions detailing life and development
of the local area.
