MASTERPIECE 2016:  Full Steam Ahead!

Saturday, July 9
Spreckels Organ Pavilion

Mark your calendars to join Patrons of the Prado under the stars next summer for another amazing event!  Get ready for an unforgettable night as San Diego rocks with our Steampunk Gala! Glorious decor and the iconic setting will capture what the San Diegan’s in 1916 might have anticipated our 2016 to look like – it's full steam ahead – and you won't want to miss it!

Don't know what Steampunk is? It's best described as neo-Victorian: a fantasy world that employs steam power, complete with corsets, victorian lace, antique clocks and keys, guns and roses, and Jules Verne.  Steampunk features anachronistic technologies and retro-futuristic inventions, much as people in the 19th century might have envisioned life in the 21st century. The theme is rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art, and will absolutely be a night to remember. Join us for this fabulous evening which includes a cocktail reception, live music performances, gourmet dinner and of course, dancing.

Most importantly, funds raised this year will benefit 6 of the 11 cultural institutions along The Prado in Balboa Park including: Mingei International Museum, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego Hall of Champions, San Diego History Center, San Diego Museum of Man, and the San Diego Natural History Museum. All 11 of our beneficiary institutions will receive grants dedicated to our Bucks for Buses initiative that provides transportation for underserved school children to experience the rich cultural landscape of Balboa Park.

Supporting an extraordinary collection of
arts and cultural institutions at Balboa Park—
the nation’s largest cultural urban park.

The Prado is Balboa Park’s central promenade, a crown jewel famous for its historical artisan-crafted facades, lush gardens, sparkling pools and flowing fountains. The area is alive with highly prized attractions, exhibitions and performances. The Prado is always “in season” providing a world-class cultural and educational experience for the millions of locals and visitors from around the world who frequent Balboa Park each year.

Since 1997 the Patrons of the Prado have provided over $2 million and thousands of volunteer hours to benefit the distinguished array of arts and cultural organizations that occupy The Prado.

There is no better way to make an impact on a wide range of San Diego’s cultural landmarks and the health of our community’s arts, than by supporting Patrons of the Prado and our annual Gala—one of San Diego’s premier fundraising events.
